- Wintergreen, Chickweed ( Trientalis europaea )

- A small hairless perennial plant, up to 25 cm, with the leaves mostly in a single whorl at the top of the stem. It bears one or two flowers with 5 - 9 white petals, which may be tinged pink. It is pollinated by various insects. Chickweed wintergreen has a creeping rhizome.

This is a plant of coniferous woods, moors and damp grassy and mossy places on acidic soils. It grows in much of Europe, but especially in the North. It is rare in England, but may be found north of Derbyshire (except for a few isolated localities in Suffolk), and it is common in East Scotland
